Shaping Cells and Tissues: from Embryonic Development to Synthetic Morphogenesis

Abstract:

During organismal development cells undergo complex intracellular reorganization and changes in shape whose causal relationship to individual morphogenetic processes remains unclear. In my presentation, I will discuss principles of synthetic morphogenesis, that is the engineering of gene circuits and signal systems to re-construct and direct morphogenesis. I will focus on input-output relationships linking developmental signaling and tissue morphogenesis during early Drosophila development.
