Will give a seminar entitled:
miR-184, a Drosophila microRNA, plays diverse roles during growth and adult stages
Our research group is interested in unraveling the intricate mechanisms that enable organisms to maintain internal stability amidst the ever-changing external environment. Specifically, we are focused on investigating the role of insulin signaling in preserving nutrient balance using the model organism Drosophila. Our methodology involves meticulous genetic screens, focused on crucial tissues responsible for managing the organism’s nutrient status, which includes insulin-producing cells (IPCs) and the fat body.
In a comprehensive genetic screening effort aimed at identifying conserved microRNAs involved in growth and development, we uncovered the role of miR-184. miR-184 regulates normal body size and pupariation timing. miR-184 also exhibits sensitivity to nutrient levels, aiding larval survival during periods of low food availability. Furthermore, our studies in adult flies unveiled the involvement of miR-184 in the regulation of circadian rhythm.
During my presentation, I will delve into the diverse functions of miR-184 across different life stages, discussing its pivotal role in shaping the developmental and homeostatic processes in Drosophila.
