The Institut de Biologie Valrose (IBV) welcomed around forty undergraduate Life Sciences students for a morning immersion session, organized in collaboration with the Valrose Science BDE, whom we warmly thank for their commitment and contribution to the success of this initiative.
This event, co-led by Nathalie Billon, aimed to provide a concrete insight into the functioning of a research laboratory and the diversity of the careers it brings together.
The morning began with a presentation of the IBV by its management, offering an overview of the institute’s research themes and organization. Students then had the opportunity to engage directly with researchers, engineers, and technicians during a highly interactive Q&A session, covering both career paths and the day-to-day realities of working in a laboratory.
The visit continued within IBV teams and technological platforms, giving students a hands-on immersion into experimental environments and cutting-edge tools used daily in biological research.
In a context where the attractiveness of research careers is an important challenge, this initiative aimed to strengthen the link between academic training and the research world, and to encourage scientific vocations.
The rich discussions and students’ curiosity highlighted the value of such initiatives, which help make research more accessible and showcase the diversity of scientific careers.
This first edition represents a promising step and is expected to be repeated, in order to continue fostering interactions between students and IBV staff.

Immersion des étudiants de licence SV à l’IBV : une matinée pour découvrir les métiers de la recherche !
L’Institut de Biologie Valrose (IBV) a accueilli une quarantaine d’étudiants de licence Sciences de la Vie dans le cadre d’une matinée d’immersion organisée en collaboration avec le BDE science de Valrose, que nous remercions chaleureusement pour son implication dans la réussite de cette initiative.
Cet évènement, co-porté par Nathalie Billon, avait pour objectif de faire découvrir concrètement le fonctionnement d’un laboratoire de recherche et la diversité des métiers qui le composent.
La matinée a débuté par une présentation de l’IBV par notre direction, offrant un aperçu des thématiques de recherche et de l’organisation de l’institut. Les étudiants ont ensuite pu échanger directement avec des chercheurs, ingénieurs et techniciens lors d’une session de questions-réponses particulièrement interactive, permettant d’aborder aussi bien les parcours professionnels que les réalités du quotidien en laboratoire.
La visite s’est poursuivie au sein des équipes et des plateformes technologiques de l’IBV, offrant aux étudiants une immersion concrète dans les environnements expérimentaux et les outils de pointe utilisés au quotidien pour la recherche en biologie.
Dans un contexte où l’attractivité des métiers de la recherche constitue un enjeu important, cette matinée visait à renforcer le lien entre formation universitaire et monde de la recherche, et à encourager les vocations scientifiques.
Les échanges riches et la curiosité des étudiants ont souligné l’intérêt de ce type d’initiative, qui contribue à rendre la recherche plus accessible et à mieux faire connaître la diversité des carrières scientifiques.
Cette première édition marque une étape encourageante, appelée à être renouvelée afin de poursuivre ces interactions entre étudiants et personnels de l’iBV !
