She earned her bachelor’s degree in animal Physiology from the University of Science and Technology in Algiers and completed her Ph.D. in Biological and Medical Sciences at the University of Bordeaux 2 (France) under the mentorship of Dr. Pierre Dos Santos. In 2002\, she joined Dr. Dale Abel’s group for her postdoctoral training at the University of Utah. Dr. Boudina was recruited to the University of Utah in 2010 as a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Division of Endocrinology\, Metabolism\, and Diabetes\, where she later served as Interim Director and then Director of the Metabolic Phenotyping Core. \nDr. Boudina has built a distinguished career in diabetes\, obesity\, and cardiovascular research. Her groundbreaking work has elucidated the role of mitochondrial dysfunction in diabetic heart disease\, and she was among the first to demonstrate that mitochondrial uncoupling impairs cardiac efficiency in obesity. Her current research focuses on unraveling the mechanisms underlying cardiometabolic diseases. Funded by the National Institutes of Health\, Dr. Boudina has received numerous accolades\, including postdoctoral fellowships from the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the American Heart Association\, as well as a Scientist Development Grant from the American Heart Association. \nSpeaker website
