DESCRIPTION:From: National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases\, National Institutes of Health\, Bethesda\, MD\, USA \n  \nWill give a seminar entitled: \n  \nTo build an egg \nOogenesis produces functional eggs with large stocks of maternal products to support embryonic development. We know a lot about genes required for Drosophila egg coating production (e.g. vitelline membranes)\, meiosis\, germline specification (e.g. nanos)\, and embryonic pattern formation (e.g. bicoid)\, but virtually nothing about how those genes are initially regulated. We show that the highly conserved Ovo transcription factor is always trans-generationally expressed in the female germline and regulates thousands of germline genes required for essentially all aspects of egg function. \n  \nSpeaker website
